Corporate Social Responsibility: Living the promise |
|
Corporate social responsibility is a concept that is taken very seriously at Trust Bank. In the Bank`s year of infancy, with all the work that comes with starting up, it was never too busy to partake in activities to help the community. Trust Bank has a culture that encourages everyone to care for others. According to the Trust culture, it is believed that every little thing that you are able to do for your community makes a difference. Trust believes in touching the lives of others not only financially but also emotionally and physically.
Communities are the waters in which corporate citizens swim in and without the community, there is no purpose of existence for the corporate citizen. As such it is important to ensure that the water in which one swims is clean and well maintained. To this end, the Trust Bank Hwange Branch occasionally takes part in a “Trusting in a Clean Environment” campaign. In this campaign, the team took to the streets of Hwange n the 18th Of June 2011 where they swept the streets and the bus terminal area of the town. Trust Bank believes in leading by example and walking the talk. The Bank leaves up to its shared value, that of being socially responsible.
Action is the difference between success and failure. Whilst all may preach the gospel of social responsibility and maybe even throw money to it for show, corporate citizens of substance take their time to do for the community that which they promised. The Hwange cleanup campaign is not the only activity the Bank partook in this year; The Trust Bank Bulawayo team also visited a local orphanage called Emthunzini Wenthemba on the 26th of November 2011.On this day, the team went to the orphanage where they spent the day ploughing and planting maize in the orphanage fields, singing and playing with the children, sharing stories and putting smiles on the faces of the little ones. At the end of the day, a sizeable donation of food supplies and clothing was handed over to the orphanage for the children.
Trust Bank not only cares for clean streets and orphans, but also assists the nonprofit making institutions that work tirelessly to education our future generations. In addition to the products that the Bank specifically designs for schools which attract no charges, the Bank assists with fund raising activities for the schools. In this regard, the Bank hosted a fundraising golf tournament for Lendy Park School at Chapman Golf Club in May 2011. The tournament was well attended and supported by various stakeholders and sizeable amount of money was raised and given to the school. The Bank has also sponsored and donated to various other community members who have approached it for assistance ranging from sponsoring prices for St Peters school in Mbare, Queensdale Primary School in Chadcombe and sponsoring golf prizes to Warren Hills Golf club Wednesday club and Captain`s tournament.
Helping the community has become second nature to Trust Bank. The bank goes beyond just sympathizing with the community, they empathize with it. The Bank hopes that as it grows in the market, its contribution to society will also increase and more and more people will benefit from their corporate neighbors. It would also be worthwhile for other corporate citizens to emulate the example set by this young and dynamic bank for a better community for all.
